Question:

What is this pain in my shoulder blade when I lean foward?

I'm 22, and ever since I was about 14 or so, I've had this pain in my right shoulder blade every time I lean forward too much.

It happens, usually, when I'm leaning down to do laundry, doing dishes, picking up a lot of things, or doing something on the computer when i'm tense (as long as i keep my shoulders back when i'm at the computer and try to keep relaxed, i'm fine. but sometimes that's hard to do when i'm writing papers).

the pain is on the inside of my right shoulder blade, towards the spine. the pain feels sort of like it's tearing -- it's an intense tingling with sharp pains.

do you know what this could be and what i could do to help it?

  1. maybe your body is more tense than it should be. maybe you should start doing regular stretching exercises, and shoulder exercises daily. that would help ease the tension in your shoulders and back, and hopefully it will ease the pain off a bit, too. try them for at least a month or two before thinking it doesn't work. yoga is also a good stretching exercise and might help.

  2. Could be a torn ligament, or rotater cuff?? of course I really don't know, but you sure have had it for a longgggggggggg time...obviously it's not going away on it's own....for me, I really would do something about it.

It may even be a nerve situation.?

  3. i actually get pain in my right shoulder also. i think it's from using a computer for so many years

  4. Well, I have a friend who is a surfer and he was having a lot of annoying pain in his shoulder.  The ONLY reason he went to the doctor was because the pain started interfering with his surfing and he thought it could be he rotator cuff (cup?) but he found out that he had a collapsed lung!  No other pain, just shoulder pain.  So...I'm sorry to say that you will need to go to a doctor and get it checked out before you will know for sure what is causing it and what can be done about it.  Depending on where you live, there are usually free clinics.  If the pain gets bad enough, go to the emergency room and let them bill you later.  Good luck.  Hope you feel better soon.

  5. I have the exact same thing in my right shoulder blade except it pretty much hurts all the time(not when I lean but it's right next to the spine). It feels like a tendon or muscle is torn. I think I did something to it when I used to play baseball.

I went to the doctor and they didn't really do anything anyway except write a note for me. I've known enough people that have had surgery to say its really a last resort because it may or may not help and there is a long recovery time. OTC pain relievers don't help so I pretty much just deal with it. If it become really bad I guess I say to see someone about it but not much will help unless your lucky.

  6. We're not doctors. You need to make an appointment today. Are you really going to trust answers from Yahoo?
