I saw a plant as I was waiting in a drive thru yesterday. It's about 10-12 inches tall. It has a pencil-sized stalk that is ribbed, and all the leaves and flowers were at the top so that it looked like a tree. It had kind of narrow pointed leaves in groups, and pink flowers that point up and look like honeysuckle flowers in shape and size. It might be some kind of weed, with my luck, but it was very cool.

  1. Photo would help. Probably not a weed if you saw it near a drive-thru. could be a generic "landscaping foliage" type of plant, which may mean it isn't native to your region, requires a lot of pesticides and extra watering in order to survive.

  2. I don't have any idea.  But!  If I were you, I'd call that place and ask for the manager and ask HIM about that particular plant.  More than likely, he'll know what it is.  He should, anyway.  He's responsible for the outside of the place as well as the inside.

  3. where do you live?  Plants used as landscaping in Michigan are vastly different than plants used in Florida.

The first thing that came to mind was Phlox paniculata.  It is blooming now in Michigan and mildew often causes the loss of lower leaves--which might make it look tree-like.  They usually put up more than one stem in a clump and can bloom in red, orange, pink, purple, blue, white, or some combinations.  It can be fragrant.  The flowers are in large trusses and the light brown stems may even bend under the weight.

The second thought was Oleander.  That would be a southern plant.  But it would likely be taller than 10-12 inches.

Is the foliage glossy, waxy, papery?  Dark green or light green?  It's like 20 questions....?
