What is this plant growing up behind my porch?

We have some kind of small tree growing up between our mobile home and the porch. It's been there since we moved in over a year ago, but it seems to be getting slightly bigger. I finally went out today and trimmed it down as much as I could with scissors, and I've brought a leaf inside to describe here.

It is aromatic and has five points. The smell is something like a cross between pine and citronella maybe. (No, it's not weed. lol) The leaf is kind of flimsy and medium to dark green. It's not overly glossy, but not fuzzy either. As far as I could tell, the plant doesn't have any other colors on it but green, except for a few spots where the leaves are dying or something, where it's a bit red-purplish if I remember correctly. Any guess as to what this is?

  1. The smell is possibly characteristic of the Rutaceae family. Try the Floridata site.

  2. Not enough information for me to ID the plant.  What part of the world do you live?  Are there mature trees of the same type of leaf nearby?  If so, do they flowers, fruits or seeds?  What is the arrangement of the leaves on the stem?

  3. If I had to guess i would say it is Sweet Gum or Liquidambar styraciflua. You could run an image search on google to compare the leaves.
