DELIGHT IN DISORDER.

by Robert Herrick

A SWEET disorder in the dress

Kindles in clothes a wantonness :

A lawn about the shoulders thrown

Into a fine distraction :

An erring lace which here and there

Enthrals the crimson stomacher :

A cuff neglectful, and thereby

Ribbons to flow confusedly :

A winning wave (deserving note)

In the tempestuous petticoat :

A careless shoe-string, in whose tie

I see a wild civility :

Do more bewitch me than when art

Is too precise in every part.

  1. This is about a guy that finds a certain satisfaction in seeing a woman dressed carelessly. More so, anyway, than one dressed in a precise manner.

It probably has to do with a person not taking themselves so seriously, to have the ability to go with the flow and not be so rigid in style and form, wouldn't you agree?

  2. It's true, this dude gets turned on by seeing a lady a bit "disheveled" - he sees a woman with messy hair or a "careless shoe string" or a neglectful cuff and his imagination goes wild and he starts fantasizing - like, "did she just have a quickie?"

But it's not that he prefers seeing a completely unkempt woman  - it's the thrill He gets from getting a peek at the other side of a woman, a more passionate side of the woman that is trying so hard  to look prim and proper...
