What THREE general principles can you deduce from the following examples? Give the principle and TWO illustrative examples, other than those already given.
a) Stimulating the primary visual cortex caused the patient to see stars and flashes of colour. Stimulating Broca’s area causes speech problems, and stimulating the somatosensory cortex resulted in tongue and lip sensations.
b) Stimulating cortical areas resulted in motor planning, involuntary movements, speech, touch information etc. Arousal, heart rate, breathing control, temperature regulation, etc., did not seem to be represented.
c) Stimulation of the left hemisphere caused involuntary movements and sensations on the right side of the body.
