What are the circled objects on this fighter? Is that the radiator? Can someone tell me what exactly they do?

  1. That's a Hawker Hurricane. The scoop underneath is an intake for the radiator and oil cooler. I can't identify an engine intake on top of the engine cowling, so this may also act as an intake for the engine. Many aircraft of the era with water cooled engines have similiar scoops under the belly for the radiators.

This photo gives a good view, it has the scoop labelled "air intake" :

  2. Air intake for the Oil Coolers.

  3. That is the intake for the radiator and oil cooler.

He's got it full-open, either a hot day or it's right after takeoff.

  4. It is a scoop. The pilot uses it on long flights to catch birds for that essential mid-flight snack!

  5. It seems like landing gears.

  6. Judging from the pictures and my memory of DC-3 and DC-6, which are almost of the same generations if not near,  inside those are oil coolers and as the name suggests it cools oil by passing ram air into the tubes that goes through and through. I have made those  when i was still an aircraft component mechanic.
