My daughter has had this rash above her groin on her lower abdomin, it has been there since about 3 days after her 12 month check-up on July 14th so about 2 weeks. I have been putting desitin on it religiously and keeping the area very clean, should i take her to the doctor? should I try some other cream? what do you think it is? I am clueless as I have never seen a rash like this before.

  1. You need to take her the to Doctor....

you could be irritating it worse with the desitin.  Rashes and skin conditions all react differently to different medications and treatment.

The last thing you want to do is irritate it more.

  2. IT does not look 2 bad but o would tale her 2 a doct cuz its been too long

  3. ur baby might have xyema it is a rash that means ur baby has dry skin. everybody had it a long time ago. just go 2 a doctor

  4. I would stop putting the desitin on it, and use aquaphor or a moisturizing cream (without perfumes or any medicines added in it) until a doctor looks at it. It looks like a dry patch and the desitin can be making it worse (because of the added scent and medicine in it) It does look like a form of atopic dermatitis (ezcema) so you may need to change her soaps and switch to dove or ivory soap only and use non scented moisturizer or aquaphor.  But definitely have a doctor look at it to make sure.

  5. It almost looks like a form of tinea from the pics, which is fungal. I would take her to the doctor , a family practice or pediatrician, not the ER just to rule out something else. Ecema is usually in other areas, like inner elbows, behind the knees.

********* Severa; people mentioned ringworms, which is a form of tinea or fungus. There are several types. Take her to her family doctor and he can look at it under a Wood's lamp. I bet it will flouresce. It can be treated relativly easily. Don't put Desitin or any other creams on it, if it is yeast or fungal, you will just feed it.

  6. Ringworm was my first thought also. There are over the counter anti-fungal creams adults can use for ringworm, but I don't think they should be used on infants without consulting a doctor.

I'd say take her to the doctor as soon as she can get in and keep it clean and dry in the meantime. I would discontinue the Desitin on it since it's not helping and letting it get some air might be better.

  7. My partner,Myself and all of my kid's get the same rash, It's eczema which is a dry skin condition which is irritated by a change in temprature/weather, food, stress.

Keep it clean and dry and try giving her nappy free time everyday, i used sudocream on my kid's eczema but if that dosen't work you can just ask the chemist what kind of cream to use... in my opinion theres no need to go to the doc's unless your really worried.

  8. I would definitely go to the doctor.

  9. I agree

    it looks like ringworm.

i have bad eczema on my arms and it doesn't look like that. try Eucerin its good for dry skin.

I would still call the dr. it could be anything from your laundry detergent to an allergy.

    good luck

  10. It looks like ringworm infection to me. My son had it when he was 5 mos old and it started on his upper arm....a circular rash with a scaly feel to it on the rim of the circle but no little bumps like a heat rash. He later had one on his cheek. The doctor gave me some antifungal creme to put on the ringworm rash and it cleared up in a week's time. The fungal infection happens from the baby's sweat so it's best to keep your baby as dry as possible from the heat. I would take her to see the doctor just to be safe.

  11. Go see her doc. I wouldn't treat it until it's diagnosed.

  12. try sudocrem on IT any antiseptic cream then leave it over night and then if it doesn't go and see a doctor

  13. looks like a patch of eczema to me.  my son has it and the doctor gave us some hydrocortisone cream  however it is not to be used in the diaper area.  Get some aquaphor at walmart or the pharmacy and put that on it as soon as you get her out of the bath and with each diaper change and it should clear right up.  I would not go to the ER but would make an appointment when convinent.

  14. I would just take her to the Dr. You can't be too careful.

  15. Did you call the doc and they said just work the desitin? Does she act bothered by it? It kind of just looks like a dry patch. My son had one on his butt, and I believe we put MUPIROCIN on it, which is a prescription. Took 2-3 days to go away, and the doc said he could keep getting them randomly. That's my very unprofessional opinion though. I'm just one of those moms who calls the doctor whenever there's something I want an explaination for. I say better safe than sorry, and it puts my mind at ease. Good luck!!

  16. Go See A Doctor.

  17. Hi

    I'm a mom to a 15 month old girl.

She's had the similar rash. Sometimes when you put too much cream, a DRY SPOT is the result.

You should keep her OUT of a diaper for 10 mins every hour.

Wash her only with warm water and baby soap, rinse well because dry soap left on the skin could cause irritation too.

Make sure you dry her extremely well. You could also use a blow-dryer set on cool and dry her off. Take half a teaspoon of OLIVE OIL and rub her bum and area with it.  When you do put a Diaper back on, make sure it's not a tight fit. Let there be some room for ventilation. The more it's humid and moist, the more this fungus will grow.

The advice I just gave you came from a paediatrician.

It worked for my daughter. GOOD LUCK.

IF the rash won't go away or get better after 3 days of trying the above..see a doctor.

Her condition may need to be re-evaluated. God Bless.

  18. that looks like dry skin. my son has had that all over him before for him it is hard to get rid of. try giving an oatmeal bath then after pat dry then put baby oil on use a wash cloth it is easyer to put on. that is what i do after i shave my legs and it leaves them soft as can be. if that wont work put ky jelly. the thick cream stuff that is yellow. at one time my son got it so bad that it was cracking on his legs that i had to put the ky on his legs then cover his legs so it would take it all in. if desitin wont work i say dry skin. babies just get it. my husband had it bad when he was a baby and now my son has it. my son has it so bad that i have to get soap that doesnt have bubbles cause it makes it worse. i would keep it clean and hey let her run around the house naked. my son loves it and it helps it if a diaper rash. well good luck. if it does turn out to be dry skin and u need help let me know, cause that one little spot is nothing for my son he has it on his sides and his back i have tried every thing but doctor said that i will have to deal with it for a while. it is not as bad as it was before. well good luck.
