What is this recent eclipse??

ok, so I know there has been all this news about an eclipse just yesterday (friday), or was it thursday?? anyways, I didnt hear or see anything (live in ny) so I was just wondering what the whole deal was with this eclipse.

  1. There was a total eclipse of the Sun visible over parts of the Earth. These events happen about every two years so there is normally a big hoohah when they happen.

    This time, the total Solar eclipse was seen over the very northern parts of Canada and the path traversed close to the north pole and came back down into Russia and ended in China.

    The complete event for any one area lasts about 2 hours with the total eclipse lasting about 2 minutes.

    This eclipse was not visible from NY so you didn't miss anything. The event was covered live on some science websites for those who wanted to see it over the internet. In your time zone it would have been around 8:10 am.
