What is this scab-like stuff under my cats fur?

My cat recently has a flea problem- a lot worse than I thought. There are fleas EVERYWHERE in my house. But my question is there is this scab-like forming under his fur, mostly on the top of his head and his neck, but it is all over. And when he gets up from sleeping in one spot there is a bunch of salt looking stuff where he was laying. What is that? And what is the scab-like stuff on him? Is it dangerous?

ANY help is appreciated!!

  1. I'm not sure about the "salt-looking stuff," but your cat could be allergic to flea bites.  My cat is, and if she has any fleas at all, she gets scabs all over and starts losing her fur.

I don't know if this is the problem your cat has, but definitely take him to the vet, because they would best know what to do for him.  Good luck!

  2. Your cat needs to see a vet to control the fleas and determine what treatment he may need for his skin problems.  Please don't delay having him treated.  It is possible that his skin could or has become infected.

You also need to have your home exterminated.  From your description of the problem, this is the time for the professionals.

    Good Luck!

  3. The scabs could be caused by your cats scratching. However, your cat could possibly have ringworm, a fungal infection. It usually is very flaky and could be flaking off leaving flakes on the bedding. You can try getting some vaginal yeast cream and rubbing it on the spots twice a day and see if it helps clear it up. Be sure and wash all bedding and your hands as humans can get it. If you get it the spots will usually look red with a white bullseye in the center. The same cream will work on you.

For the fleas there are many remedies and I like the natural ones best. There are some house bombs for fleas, wash bedding in hot water, vacuum frequently, Search for natural flea remedies on the internet and you will get several sites to help.

Its probably not dangerous but your kitty is probably miserable and a trip to the vet can help. There is an oral antifungal available by prescription.
