  1. It's "thermodynamics" and basically it says that the world tends to move towards disorder. Creationists use it as an argument against evolution because evolution makes more order out of disorder. What they fail to consider in this argument is that the second law is referring to the whole system. In other words, it's possible to create order on a small scale (evolution) and still have the second law obeyed throughout the whole system.

  2. You misspeller!  It's not "thorough dynamics" - it's "thorough dyenetics."

  3. I'm afraid that Vincent was teasing you. You'll get a better answer in Cats.

  4. haha, tis a funny!

  5. Since you asked here, yes.

The second law of thermodynamics, in general terms, states that things always go towards a more disordered state. In a more specialised way of saying it, it shows that spontaneously occurring physical and chemical reactions will always proceed in the direction of increasing entropy.

Creationists try and use it to say that evolution can not be possible, as that involves increasing order. However, that is nothing but an overly simplistic and very silly argument. As the Earth has a continuous outside energy source, the sun, reactions can occur that are not spontaneous in nature, as the input of heat energy affects reaction equilibrium in a wide variety of cases. This means that there is absolutely no conflict between thermodynamics and evolution.

On a grander scale, some other creationists try to say that it also shows that an ordered universe could not have come out of the big bang. They conveniently forget that the universe is not a purely thermodynamic system of course, and ignore the effects of gravity on a galactic scale.

Basically, the 2nd law of thermodynamics only gets brought up in R&S by ignorant creationists who haven't the faintest clue about science, but still want to try and sound clever.

  6. It does not disprove evolution if that is what you are getting at.

  7. Spell better, and I'll answer in the other one.

  8. It's the second law of thermodynamics, and it has nothing to do with religion.

    Second law of thermodynamics:

The total entropy of any isolated thermodynamic system tends to increase over time, approaching a maximum value.

Perhaps this topic is what you want: "Second Law of Thermodynamics - Does this basic law of nature prevent Evolution?"
