  2. That's actually close but not quite what the sentence means.  In this context, 'interpretation' means 'rendition'.  i.e., Michelangelo's version of the Pieta is different from the version of everyone who sculpted it before him.

  3. It means that Michelangelo's way of seeing the Pietà is unique, compared to how others see & interpret it. His point of view is different than others.
