What is this spider/cricket/mutant thing?!?

Question

what are those cricket spidery things that i keep finding in my basement? some are pretty small but a lot of them are HUGE like at least the size of my big toe...

the worst part is that they ******* jump all the time!

i usually only see them at night or when it's been really dark in my basement. they're freakin fast and i'm too scared to go near them so i don't know how to get rid of them haha

does anybody know what they are? how should i get rid of them?!?!

They are probably cave crickets. I'm scared of them too. You need to get someone to take care of that. Pest control!

Do they have 8 legs, jump really high, and seem to have wings?  Because if so they are harmless - according to a buddy of mine they are some sort of cicada.  All I know is my sophomore year of college our dorm was overrun with them and since they aren't deadly our university wouldn't send the pest control.  The best options for killing them are to use an indoor fogger or get a cat - apparently cats will eat them.  We couldn't do either in our dorm so we settled for killing all that we could find with textbooks - it didn't really work so well.  I'd suggest the fogger.  It's about 8 bucks at Walmart and totally worth the work.  Just don't leave any pets in the house when you fog - it's deadly.

i found them in the garage too, i never know they are cricket cause i run as fast as i could when i saw one anyway for all the time i thought they are just cockroaches that jump; and you are right they jump that's disgusting. i hate them....i mean they are not that bad if they can be smaller but most of the time they are just huge....

Sounds like cave/camel crickets,Genus Ceuthophilus, are harmless. Please check the link below for more detailed info. on descriptions and elimination methods. (Personally, I'd avoid using glue traps at all costs. Often catch non-targeted species and a very cruel way to die)

Call an exterminator.  Yeah I had camel crickets in the basement at my old house.  They're so gross.  Tell me do you notice what bad jumpers they are?  They have no idea how to control their jump.  They land on their back, they bump into you when they're trying to get away, etc.  Are they all like that or were mine just exceptionally stupid?

They are called camel crickets and they are totally and completely harmless.  They don't cause any problems and they won't bite you. The only way to effectively get rid of them in a basement is to eliminate the dampness and trash.  Otherwise don't worry about them.  They are just nature's way of telling you that your basement is like a damp dirty cave and it needs a bit of attention.
