I need help identifying this spider. I live in south Georgia and have recently started seeing these in my house. I have never seen these before now, and never two at the same time. Over the past 5 weeks I have seen 7 of these spiders. I have found one in my son's room, but the rest have been in the kitchen. I have 3 kids and 2 dogs and want to know what kind these are and if they are poisonous. Here's a link to the picture I took of it this weekend. Compared to our little house spiders these things are HUGE!

  3. water spider seriously u dont no

  4. These are Wolf Spiders.  Note the small abdomen and long Pedipalps (small leg-like limbs at front), these make it a male.

These spiders are completely harmless and do not bite, and even if they did you wouldn't feel a thing.  They are very good at capturing insect pests in a house, and will rid it quickly of things like termites, cockroaches, crickets, flys, etc..  They can spin webbing but do not make the beautiful webs of the Orb Weaver Spiders.

After laying her eggs, the female carries her egg sac around on her back.

    They can move pretty fast.

If there are more and more in your house, that can only mean one thing, a good food supply of insects.  Therefore, if you DO have a bug problem, maybe you should contact a exterminator.  Otherwise, just take an empty jar, herd the spider into it, and release it outdoors.

  5. this is a wolf spider, family lycosa.  They can pack a punch, but generally harmless.  They tend to make their way indoors when it is extrememly wet, or the weather is changing. (ie:cool outdoors, need warmth.)  I usually see an increased number of them in my home around September and again around March.  I live in Ohio not the south, so I'm not too sure how cool your evenings have been.  Nothing to worry about, they are beautiful to look at, but can tend to scare you when they catch you off guard.

  6. Looks like a common house spider, but it's hard to tell.

ALL spiders are venomous, but not all are dangerous. I would honestly rather see a spider in my house than a cockroach.
