What is this story when the dog protects the baby but then the owner kills the dog?

The story goes like this, there was a prince or something that had a dog and he was very fond of the dog they were like best friends one day the prince wen out adn the dog had the task of guarding the princes baby or something...some one tries to steall the baby so the dog fyts em off the baby is hidden under a bla nket..when the prince comes back he sees the dog with blood on him and cannot see the baby so he kills the dog and then realises the babies under the blanket...am sure this stories famous what is it called?

Bedd Gelert - a Welsh tale, the prince is called Llewelyn [sp?] and the dog is called Bedd Gelert. It's not a person who tries to take the baby, it's a wolf.
