Question:

What is this strange noise from my car mean?

95 Buick. Never had any problems till today. I started it up and it had a sound coming from it like "eeerrrrrr", sounded like a squeeky wood floor in an old house. As I accelerate it sounds more like a dirt bike than a car. It is most noticable when I turn the wheels right or left. It is not difficult to turn the steering wheel, but it sounds like it is hard on the vehicle. Any ideas or how to check before taking it in to a shop? NOTE: I haven't messed with the fluids in a loooong time and I'm not sure if this could be a cause or not.

  1. its probably your power steering pump. it could be low on fluid and could have a leak.

  2. Considering you AREsupposed to check the fluids before you even start the car  1995 is along time ago.    So you are probably out of fluids and have wrecked the motor.  So instead of a couple of bucks, you are looking at a couple thousand bucks.   All your fault.  It says so, in your manual so the manufacturers are off the hook.

  3. That would be your serpentine belt. Go check it. If it has cracks and splits it meens you need a new one.

  4. is your steering resevoir low. check it when the engine is running and if low add dexron trans fluid till it reads full

  5. you  have  to check the steering pump/belt tension and steering shaft dust cover seal condition .check for fluid level and leakage by taking note of oily area

there are a video example regarding the sound you facing .you can read  comments to somehow to get close to the answer. hope this help

  6. check the power steering pump for leaks, top it off and let sit place some cardboard under your car and in an hour pull it out, if there is drips all over it then you have a leak somewhere.

  7. Most def. power steering pump, add more fluid. If you had heard clicking sound then that would be wheel bearing ....

It's low its not damaged even so it's not that hard to replace......it's making the noise because it needs attention.

  8. your power steering pump is low on fluid or going bad or both
