What is this strange rock?

I went camping in whitney lakes campground in alberta canada and decided to go to the beach when I went swimming i found a strange rock!Its grey with scattered crystals with a little bit of white. I also found out that a glacier passed through about 10,000 years ago is it maybe a glacier rock?I have looked all over the internet and cant get answers!!!

  1. It could be a dimictite if it is poorly sorted.  That pretty much means that the glacier dropped stuff of all sizes.  


  2. Without actually seeing it, it's hard to say... it sounds more igneous than anything else.  There's no such thing as a "glacier rock", by the way.  Rocks can be deposited and eroded and reshaped by glaciers, but glaciers don't actually form them.

  3. Glaciers can transport rocks long distances and then deposit them as they recede.

    Without seeing it - its hard to identify - how big are the crystals.

    It sounds vaguely like an igneous rock made of feldspar and quartz - but who knows...

  4. I guess I am fix'n to show my ignorance, but aren't glaciers made of ice?  Maybe they have rock in them?

  5. What you may be seeing is what is called a Glacial Erratic.  It is bedrock that has been transported many miles (perhaps hundreds) from its original place and dropped when the glacier receeded.
