  6. Oh, I was going to say it's an ampersand, but that is the "and" symbol, "&". Sorry, don't know, but I'll find out, I'm interested now!

    From my research (Google), the name for it seems to be "arroba" Seems an unlikely name to me, but that may be just because I'm unfamiliar with it.

    It began use as the shorthand for the phrase "at the rate of" in accounting e.g. “7 widgets @ $2 ea. = $14”.

    Nowadays, this commercial character is more commonly used in e-mail addresses.

  18. It's not an ampersand - the ampersand is the "&" symbol and the word is a corruption of "and per se and" - which means "and" by itself.

    I had a quick look on Wikipedia, and the "@" is referred to there as the "at sign"... So I don't think there's any other name for it than that.
