I'm talking about the mascot of Travelocity.com.

I see it very often, especially in Germany. What does it symbolize? Here's a link : http://notonlybutalso.typepad.com/notonlybutalso/images/roamingnome.gif

  1. This is the first time that I have seen it!

It as " How Ducky" written on the side so I think that it could be more of a Gnome asking a question!

I would like to know if anyone else know exactly what it stand for .

  2. it's the roaming gnome from travelocity.

  3. That's the scariest thing I've ever seen.

  4. It is called "The Traveling Gnome".

Apparently, there was a story about a man who was a gardener (or like) who had a gnome in his yard.  This man never traveled anywhere nor was daring enough to venture out, (although he dreamed of having such adventures.)

One day, he noticed that his lawn gnome was missing.  He had no idea who stole it.  Some days later, he received some photos of a place he dreamed about visiting and in the pictures WAS HIS LAWN GNOME!!!  He received many more mailings with the gnome visiting all sorts of places and landmarks.

Then one day, he went outside to find that the lawn gnome had returned to his garden in the exact spot where it disappeared in the first place.  So every time the man would go outside, he would see his gnome and started to think about the places he went.  Finally, the man decided, "If the gnome could go, then 'I' could too!!!"  The man FINALLY left for his first adventure, and the mystery of The Traveling Gnome was never solved.  (At least not to the man.)

Apparently, this was a movie premise and very well played out.  Of course I might not have the story EXACTLY right, but it makes an interesting point.

  6. its an old elf.

  7. Lol I dont know if your serious but that is a 'gnome' (the g is silent) Search the internet for it.

  8. Its a garden gnome, there was a thing when the internet first got started where people would steal someone gnome and take it on there cross country travels taking photos and sending them to the owner and posting on the net. So thats my guess

  9. It's just a lawn gnome.  Just a little fairy-tale creature, like dryads or leprechauns.

There's a very funny French movie called "Amelie", where the title character steals the gnome from her father's garden and gives it to a friend who's a flight attendant; the friend then proceeds to travel all over the world with it and send back "vacation photos" of the gnome visiting various historical sites.  (It's much sweeter than it sounds; you really have to see the movie to appreciate it)...

  10. this symbol has a santa cluas kind of picture to represent holy person wishing good luck to the people moving towards journey.

  11. The travel gnome or the 'tacky' gnome which symbolizes all the ugly gifts you're afraid you might get and have to return.
