  1. LCD tv's can get much smaller, like 15, 19, 20, 23, 26, 27, 32, 37, etc.. Whereas plasmas generally are 42in up to i've seen 65in. The biggest LCD i've seen is 52in.

LCD uses different technology than plasma. LCD uses liquid crystals, like a laptop screen, and plasma uses pockets of gas.

Plasma runs hotter and uses more electricity. There is also the chance of getting burned-in images on a plasma tv. This is becoming less of an issue, but it can still happen if you leave the same image on the screen for long, especially if it is flashing, such as in a video game.

Plasma also has a glass front on it, which can be very reflective. This is extremely annoying when there is light in your room, espeically in dark scenes of TV or movies. LCD tv's have a non-relfective screen, like that on most laptop screens.

Plasma generally has a higher contrast ratio, so blacker blacks and whiter whites.

Plasma has a better time with fast moving images, though LCD has come a long way to close the gap in this category.

Overall, LCD is a better technology, and you can see it reflected in the price. For the same sized television, LCD will cost more. It will also last longer and have less problems though. I recomend LCD to anyone who wants a flat panel tv.

And stick with the name brands. If you go for something cheap, just know that the manufacturer did the same thing when choosing the components to use, so they are going to be more likely to have something go wrong. The big brands usually stand behind their products better too. Sony would be your best bet, unless you go for plasma, which they dont make (care to guess why?), then go for panasonic.

  3. HI there lcd stands for liquid cristel display and plasma isthe 4th state of nature soliid gas liquid and plasma or fast moving electrons

  4. plasma display panel (PDP) is a type of flat panel display now commonly used for large TV displays (typically above 37-inch or 940 mm). Many tiny cells located between two panels of glass hold an inert mixture of noble gases (neon and xenon). The gas in the cells is electrically turned into a plasma which then excites phosphors to emit light. Plasma displays are commonly confused with LCDs, another lightweight flatscreen display but with very different technology.

Liquid-crystal display televisions (LCD TV) are television sets that use LCD technology to produce images. Benefits of LCD technology include lower weight and reduced power requirements when compared to other display types. LCD television screens can also be used as computer monitors.

It had been widely believed that LCD technology was suited only to smaller sized flat-panel televisions at sizes of 40" or smaller. Early LCDs could not compete with plasma technology for screens larger than this because plasma held the edge in cost and performance. However, LCD TVs can now offer essentially the same performance.

Current sixth-generation panels by major manufacturers such as Samsung, Sony, LG.Philips LCD, and the Sharp Corporation have announced larger sized models:LCD technology is based on manipulation of polarized light. Two thin polarizing sheets are laminated to two glass substrates containing a thin layer of liquid-crystal. A regular 2-dimensional grid of electrodes allows each pixel in the array to be selected and activated individually.

Several LCD technologies are used for the realization of large format television screens (e.g. TN, IPS, PVA, FFS), all in combination with active-matrix addressing.
