  1. If you do use a steel leader, what are you going to do when you've caught it, removing a hook from a snapping turtle is pretty dangerous, also they can weigh allot and it could put too much pressure on your bait-cast reel and your rod.

  2. I'd strongly advise not attempting to catch it.Removing a hook from a snapping turtle is dangerous. The last thing you want is to get bit.Like people above said, just use a steel leader or change locations.

  3. use a wire trace it could be crayfish who takes tha hook to.

  4. how about using a 6 inch wire trace to stop it chewing through the line, try putting a shrimp in a small treble wire trace to catch it.

  5. Steel leader.

  6. airflow`s answer is good. suggestion change locations. Also where legal snappers are very good eating. Some states have a season. remove from shell, clean, boil, add seasoning, dip hot in lemon and butter,  taste better than lobster. Steamed Turtle. take fresh turtle meat, fill with black pepper and a bit of butter, steam until flesh separates from bone, add black sauce( the soy bean  sauce to be found in Chinese restaurants) worcestershire sauce.

    some fine eatin
