  1. from the look of the food i think it should not be Chinese food is likely to be Korean stone hotpot rice. the cube stuff is called JULUO firm curd like jello made from fruit of a plant contain mainly fiber. Some people eat as a diet food, while some made them into a dessert with fruits. People suffer from asthma, low blood pressure or malnutrition should not consume large amount.

  2. I was going to  say it looks like agar too.

(Funny thing is I know this because I use it in the lab all the time for molecular biology work.  You take the powder, boil it in water, and set it like jello..except that it'll set at room temperature)

Edited to add: sometimes it comes in colours too.

  3. Chinese restaurants do it... i think its coconut.... :S not sure though.... x

  4. I am former chef and the Chinese and Japanese use a seaweed serived Gelatin called agar or agar-agar, it is a bit firmer than US or North American style jello, which is animal derived.

I make it with coconut milk or almond milk like the dim sum dish they serve with canned fruit cocktail and carnation milk.

  5. Nata de coco. (from coconut flesh). Looks like agar agar but seriously that piece would complement the dish which I think is some sort of salad. Agar agar is more likely to appear during the dessert time.

  6. It's tofu, made from soy beans.

  7. Possibly factory-synthesized tofu.

  8. definitely agar agar!
