What is this weird fungus type smoking thing?

I was in my basement and by the whole filled with water for the subpump i saw this brownish yellow looking thing and it was like just hanging on to the side and like every 10 seconds it would like release smoke or steam. And it was there for a while and was a little speck and just grew bigger and bigger as time went on . and i just want to know if this fungus is harmful and what the name for it is so i can do some research all help will be highly appreciated thank you.

I don't know what it is, but what I do know is its not smoke - its spores (sort of seeds that fungus releases) Spores can be harmful if they get in your lungs so I would definatly research what kind of fungus grows in damp conditions in the home.

Where do you live? Certian fungus will be native to your area and help you narrow it down.

I think this proves whatever type of fungus it is - it should be removed. Use gloves and cover your nose and mouth when doing it.

I would be very careful breathing in whatever that thing is spewing.  If it is a type of mold it can cause health hazards.  You should get yourself a home mold testing kit.  You should be able to get one at a hardware store for about $10-15.  The one I used just had a little container with sticky stuff in it and I set it out for 24 hours then packaged it up and sent it to the lab to be analyzed.  I forget how long it took to get the results but I got it via email.  Easy peasy.
