What is too much to ask for for apartment maintenance ?

Every since we've moved into our apartment 4 months ago, i noticed a tiny bit of what i think is black mold forming in the corners of our bath tub. As time has passed, the mold has increased... majorly. It has started to go onto the wall. I have tried everything from bleach to literally every single "mold" remover in Wal-Mart. Should i ask the maintenance crew to remove the mold and put completely new silicon or should i pay to do it myself. is that their responsibility? thanks.

  1.   The mold is your fault. Most people actually do not know much about living in a house! If you use your towel, after drying yourself, to dry out the entire shower, you will never have any mold.   Warmth, moisture, darkness = mold.  Last person to use the shower dries it up!

Once there, it takes a little work and an experienced person to clean it up. It has to be dug or chemicled or ground out of the grout areas.

Do not bother to use those "simple" acrylic/Silicon chemical compounds to go over the molded area. The mold just grows back under the acryclic. This is the voice of experience! Use pre-mixed grout from a little plastic container from Home D. or other building material supply.  The big time chemical companies that sell, and spend milloins of dollars advertising, that stuff are the worst kind of megabucks thieving, lying, so and sos.

I bought a dollar store squeegee to wipe out the heaviest concentrations of water -- then use wash cloth or the bath towel you dried yourself with, to finish dry the entire wet area of the shower. It does not have to be absolutely dry, just visibly dry. Hey, what the heck, you or anybody in your family needs the bending and reaching to dry the place. It is called excercise!  Wipe the walls at AN ANGLE with the squeegee so that it does not just go thumpity-thump across the tile joints.

Mold is "icky" but no one has ever proved that the stuff is harmful to people. Just anither millions of dollars spent by mega companies to create an entire mega-million dollar industry to remove the stuff, make theiving lawyers rich for doing nothing, create lots of stuff for the newspapers to print and sell papers!

My shower is thirty  + years old, floor to ceiling, 6' long  by 36" wide   ---- Good as new!        4" tiles.

  2. You need to have them completely replace the sub-floor and walls coverings around the tub.

    It is totally their responsibility.

If they balk, contact your local Health Department.

  3. I have the same problem as you and I am going to buy the what i need and do it my self because I do not like the maintenance men in my place and I also have a dog., About 10,00 I think will fix it. It is their  responsibility, but I don't like strangers in my home and they change personal a lot.It is your preference. Good Luck.

  4. its not your responsibility to repair cause your renting. make them replace everything before ya'll start getting sick mold is bad!!!!!
