  1. When I'm in Costa Rica ('cause I live there "part time"), I notice women can walk the streets at night and MANY times by themselves with no problems.  Maybe because of the "inherited machismo" culture, men may stare a little more at the attractive women (no more so than in other cultures), except maybe not so subtle sometimes.

I think it also depends on the area of CR that you're in.  Use common sense above all.

  2. I feel safe living here and I am 24 Female. But there are words of caution that need to be made.

Theft is big here, a majority of the gringo ladies I know Living here in my town have been targeted for theft. They want valuables that will support drug habits as the cocaine industry is thriving here. My laptop was the jewel of my apartment, luckily i had it in town with me the night they broke in. Don't bring things you will regret if they are stolen.

I would not walk alone at night in most beach towns, i would find others to tag along with or simply stay in after dinner hours. There is no need to be worried but you need to take care of yourself. Most of Costa Rican men are harmless and just enjoy the view, but there are always the ones that mess things up for everyone.

  3. Have you ever had a man hiss at you? You will. "tssst tsst!"

  4. Since no one has answered, I will put my 2 cents in.  I have been a single female in Honduras and know several women whom have as well.  Costa Rica has a GREAT number of American's.  I imagine you will be just fine.  Realize you are NOT in the USA, locate Americans whom are there and ask questions & listen.  Good Luck

  5. Costa Rica is a wonderful place. It has a lot to offer. If you are enjoying nightlife, Costa Rica has its own unique way of making it for everyone, single or married. Check this site to help you find out the bests things about this place. Thanks!

  6. I noticed that the men there really stare at women more than in the American culture. I don't know if you are American, but that is just what I observed.

I guess some women like the attention.
