I bought a water purification system for outdoors. The direction says to purify 10 liters water needs 1/2 tsp. I googled 1 US teaspoon = 4.92892159 milliliters, but it makes no sense to me. Just telling me how many drops I need would be better. I couldnt get any idea out of milliliters.

Thanks, and 10 points

  1. one milliliter is 20 drops so 1 tsp = 5 ml is 100 drops.

  2. A drop is 0.1 ml, so 1/2 tsp is about 2.5ml or 50 drops.

EDIT: After seeing the other answers I did a little research. Turns out that the reported rates of drops per ml are all over the map--from 1/10th to 1/25th.

I guess you need to get a 1 tsp cooking measure (measuring spoon) and figure it out for your particular solution and dropper.

"the "metric" drop, 1/20 mL (50 μL).

the medical drop, 1/12 mL (83⅓ μL).

the Imperial drop, 1/36 of a fluidram (1/288 of an Imperial fluid ounce, or 1/1440 of a gill) (approximately 99 μL).

an alternate, possibly apocryphal, definition of the drop is 1/1824 of a gill (approximately 78 μL).

    the U.S. drop, 1/60 of a teaspoon or 1/360 of a U.S. fluid ounce (approximately 82 μL).

an alternate definition of the U.S. drop is 1/76 of a teaspoon or 1/456 US fl oz (approximately 65 μL). "

  3. A tsp is a teaspoon. It is approximately 5 mL and the best thing for you to do is to buy a metric measure from the pharmacy it would be more accurate than drops.

But if you need to know the drops 20 drops make up approximately 1 mL (depending on the dropper), so 2.5 mL would be 50 drops.

If you are not familiar with milliliters (mL) then 2.5mL = 1/2 tsp

so for every 10 liters of water you need 50 drops.

If you are still confused go to the store where you bought the system and ask them.

    Hope this helps.
