What is up with KBR, can anyone help me?

My little brother (20) is leaving to go overseas for god knows how long. I am concerned about his safety. The position is Food Service Worker, at CJOA-CS1, Sharana AOR in Afghanistan. can anyone give me some kind of idea of what this job is for, why do they hire civilians to do it, and is he going to be safe. Anyone can comment but i am looking for someone that has done it before or knows somebody.

Many civilians go overseas to Iraq or Afghanistan to work. The benefit is that most of the money is tax free and is a higher rate then they would get in the states. The downside is that they might be in harms way.
