What is up with kerry wood?

If you didn't hear, kerry wood was on the DL for a month with a blister on his finger. I heard somewhere it might have been a career ending injury. If Goose Gossage got a blister, he would have missed a game. Do you think teams baby their players too much? If I was making a million dollars a year i would have sucked it up and pitched.

  1. Sometimes there are injuries that are hidden in the clubhouse

  2. Well apparently Kerry Wood goes on the DL a lot. Probably more than a blister, though.....

  3. That is so stupid that he is missing because of a blister   and who gets surgery for a blister!!

  4. Well u might think of a blister that its a baby injury its really not. The skin after hard pitches becomes very hard and u get a blood blister cause of so much friction with the ball. so of course u pop it and u get really soft skin there and u need at least 2 weeks cause if u keep on pitching u will soon find ur finger infected and probably get surgery on it to release fluids.Even though it might look good its not its still soft under the skin. All u could really do i suggest u do in a injury like this is get super crazy glue and about 2 layers of it to ur blister after u pop it it really works great

  5. Kerry Wood is one of those players that will forever be injury prone.  No matter what the injury may be.  The Cubs are in a position to sit key players for a week or a game or 2 because of their large lead and Lou isn't dumb.  He knows that the baseball regular season is LONG and we need a fresh team come playoff time and not a bunch of pitcher with dead arms or players that are literally burnt out.  I think Lou doesn't want a repeat of his Mariners team that had one of the greatest regular seasons ever but were 1st round exit in the playoffs.

  6. As a Cubs fan you know that Kerry Wood and the DL go together like peanut butter and jelly.I'd safely bet there was something other than a blister wrong with him.The blister was a convenient excuse. And the Goose would have missed an inning, but not two.

Of course players are babied today. This, too should come as no surprise to anyone.

  7. why not just be happy that the Cubs had enough in the pen that they could afford to give him some down time to let the blister heal so that there is a heatlthy Wood on the mound for..... THE MOTHER OF ALL NEXT YEARS

  8. u try throwing a ball at 90 mph and playing through that, what Kerry later described to be an open wound. I think even though Goose wouldn't have been shelved (you're right about that) but they were taking precautions because they would rather have him out for a few weeks to a month that have him pitch through it and injure it even more.

  9. wtf

  10. if it was in september and october then i can guarantee you kerry would have been pitching. Also if kerry was the only good reliever they had then i think lou piniella wouldn't have put him on the DL. also, i have no idea where you heard it could have been career ending. you are obviously making that part up.
