Question:

What is up with me and the ACT?

I know that the SAT is famed for consistently giving a person the same score, even if they re-take it... but this is nuts. I got a 1410 on the SAT (January), and took the ACT a couple months after (April). I got a 29 out of 36 possible pts. I did worst on Social science reading (13 out of 18 subscore) and science (which I did not know was on the test, I got 27 out of 36 on that portion). I did okay on the rest, even getting 28 out of 36 for math, 2 points below my english (which is always my strong suit, math is my weak one).

After doing a bunch of Social science reading and mostly just science mini practice sections, I came and took the June ACT. This time, guess what. 29! Again. This time I scored a point better in Reading, three better in science, even did better in english. But lo and behold, dropped from a 28 to a pathetic 23 in math. On the trig subsection, I got 10 out of 18 subscore. Thats like a 56.

WHY in the world do I keep getting the same darned score?

  1. Yeah I took both the April and June ACT and got the same score! It was frustrating! I also did better in one section, but then worse in the other. I don't think they do it on purpose, but there is a curve. On the April ACT, I got one wrong on the math and still got a 36, but in June, I got one wrong again.. but it dropped my subscore to 34. It means that some tests are easier than others and the ACT people recognize that so they curve it. Anyways, 29 is way above average and a great score!

  2. Need to look at it this way the SAT scores up to 1800, so therefore you'll get a little different variances on the scores when you take the test.  The ACT only scores up to 36, therefore it is going to be much more difficult to move up drastically in score......especially with a 29.  Good job girl your a smarty pants :).

  3. its fate

    i know it sucks.....

    im really sorry though.

  4. Well, that happened to me for the SAT once. 2030 BOTH times! I was like WTF?!?!?!?! since they were in different sections. But anyways, a 29 is a great score! Keep it up, and if you retest (again, maybe lol) it might improve.
