What is up with my class rank?

I have a 4.17 weighted, and a 3.92 unweighted GPA. Yet my school has me at 101 out of 543 in class rank? Why am I so low if I have almost perfect grades? I am taking all APs/Honors and got As in all but on last year. I am doing better than most people in the state of California, yet I am in the 20% of class rank! Is my school just full of geniuses of could this be a mistake?

It is a public high school too.

  1. Well, an A+ is a 5.5 in honors. There are a lot of people that are in between your 4.17 and 5.5. I think it's reasonable since there area lot of people in your class. There may just be many smart people.

  2. ask guidance or a teacher or something.  They probably just messed up.  If not ur school is just full of geniouses (unlikely)

  3. There most likely isn't anything wrong with your class rank. A 3.92 Unweighted GPA is very good, although that would put you at about 30-35% at my high school- which is also public.

Think about it: You have to account for all the kids who have perfect 4.0 UW GPA's- there are a lot of them... Especially in the whole state of California... Then you have to think of the kids who have only received one A-, and so on...

So your 20% class rank seems absolutely correct to me. However if you would like to be in top ten, top five, etc... Try to get better grades... That's pretty obvious.

Although my school is very good, it is not full of geniuses. The truth is, lots of kids get good grades these days. We have like 30-40 kids each year who get perfect 4.0's (UW) and I'm pretty sure they're not all geniuses.

Try to raise your grades/ class rank- you'll get there.
