What is up with the Weather Underground.....politcs help please?

I just watched a documentary -" Weather Underground, the Explosive Story of America's Most Notorious Revolutionaries." It stated that one of the chief aims of the group was fighting a RACIST war in Vietnam and to show solidarity with Blacks in America. Here is the odd part.... Shortly before they disbanded the Weather Underground wanted to re-emerge as a WHITE SUPREMACIST group. What is up with that?

Some of the Chicago based revolutionaries from the Weather underground did in fact pass out confederate flags to be worn on the shoulders of members clothing. Several are active in Obamas campaign.
