What is up with the Yahoo! Pool robots?

Hey I was in a Yahoo pool room the other day and there were 30 or so "robots". I don't think they were all people because they had very similar names, weren't playing games, and spamming in the lobby. What is the deal with these people...why are they in the game?

Yahoo has created "robots" for some games so that you could play with them. But if they spam, I don't think that they are Yahoo! robots.
