What is up with the polygamist group?

I have watched and listened to the interviews with the women from the polygimist compound and they sound very strange. They sound like they are doped up or have a speech impedament, any ideas?

I think that they were brainwashed to believe that the way that they lived is right & normal. But, who is to say what is right & normal? Definitely taking advantage of minors isn't normal though!

The notion of brainwashing is a fallacy and there is no simple answer.  Through socialization processes, they have been raised to believe that thier way of life is proper.  They likely live a very sheltered and secluded lifestyle, as made apparent by where they live and how they dress.  That particular group is a fringe element of the LDS.  The New York Times has a good article about them:

I have been watching the same thing and yes they do sound unnormal!  But to us it isn't right....espically for underage women!  Its crazy to think that there are still people out there that do that stuff.... but that is how they were raised.... from generation to generation.  Say you lived in a bad part of your town with drugs, kids fighting each other etc you would think it was normal because that is all you have known!
