  1. Anthrax

  2. That would depend on whether the horse is at the track, or out in a pasture.

  3. A 357.

  4. Dang, I've been wondering the same thing since they did that to Eight Belles. I guess I just don't know how or why : ( So sad, but I am curious as well. I would assume it was just an injection. But, still. That's horrible.

  5. Euthanisia or a gun.

  6. Garlic Breath...

  7. Horse Euthanizer.

  8. on the farm i used a 303 british lee enfield. beautiful gun. shot one with a 243 once think it was a weatherby? then the mink farmer come and picks it up.$100.00 plus the hide. not bad for a $o.70 bullet. don't know why farmers would pay me to "exterminate" their animals, they kinda get queasy about it. weird when some were soldiers too that used guns on men.

  9. Barbiturates and anesthetics.

    Edit:

Nowadays, the majority of people do NOT use guns.

  10. Euthanasia Solution, which is normally a combination of 2 different types of drugs. One is a barbituate or tranquilizer, and the other is a paralytic anesthetic which stops the heart and breathing, and paralyzes all the muscles of the body. All modern equine vets carry euthanasia solution on their trucks, because they never know when they might be called upon to use it. This solution is also different than most medications in that it looks like nothing else in a vet's arsenal of drugs. ES comes in one of two colors: either a very bright magenta pink, or a sort of grayish green color. They dye it that way for a reason- it's to keep it from being mistaken for anything else and misused.

    That answer your question??

  11. You've asked this question before.

It is a lethal injection of a barbiturate which causes a very quick cardiac arrest and immediate death usually within 5-35 seconds.

  12. A shotgun.

  13. The best-case scenarios for euthanizing a horse both involve intravenous barbiturate overdose. A horse undergoing surgery can be given the overdose via the already-established IV if it becomes clear during the surgery that the horse will not survive. It is also common for a horse to be euthanized by intravenous injection outside of surgery. As soon as the drug is given, the horse loses consciousness, and its pain is relieved almost instantly. This can be a comforting thought for the owners.

Beyond these scenarios, things can get a bit more difficult. If your horse is badly injured or in significant pain it can be dangerous to attempt to use an injection. If it is in shock, its circulation may be too impaired to transport the drug to its brain and heart, and the veins may be difficult or impossible to locate to administer it. In this situation, the veterinarian may need to use a .22-caliber pistol to euthanize the animal.

Note: Eight Belles was euthanized by injection

  15. sodium pentobarbital or blue juice
