to a Toddler bed? my son will be 2 in a few months.. is that too soon? should i wait until he is a little older?? Iam looking to redue his room soon and was just curious As to what age everyone thinks is the best. he sleeps pretty well right now in his crib so its just keeping him in the bed im worried about if i do buy him a toddler bed with a crib he has restrictions with a regular bed he would be free to get up as much as he wanted thats my worry up all night putting him back in bed lol..

  1. Both of my girls we transitioned to a toddler bed before 2 years because they were getting big enough to put their feet over the rail, and that scared me.  It is more difficult than a crib, but you just put them back if they get out, keeping interaction to a minimum, and keep the routine you have now.  After a few days, he will probably settle down and it won't be much of a problem.  You may also want to put a child gate in the doorway of his room so if he gets up he doesn't get into anything dangerous.  I would wait until it seems like he might fall out of the crib before you do this, though, so if he's small, wait as long as you can.

By the way, my first daughter - it was horrible, but bedtime had always been, and still is, a fight, and she's 4-1/2.  My second daughter is the easy to bed one, and it took one night of putting her back in for an hour, and now just the occasional fuss.

  2. There really is no set or "perfect" age to transition to a bed. The best time, and most crucial, is when the child learns to climb out of his/her crib. Once they learn how to, it poses a safety hazard, as the child could get caught, or fall and become seriously injured. Some children learn at 11 months, others not until 3 years. Once he learns to climb out of his crib, move him to a bed. Any sooner MAY pose a safety risk, not necessarily will. If he can get himself off furniture or a bed without injuring himself, moving him before he can climb out may be okay, but generally the rule of thumb is when they learn to climb out of their crib.

  3. I have a two and a half year old daughter and I plan on leaving her in her crib as long as I can. When she starts climbing out of it..It will be time to put her in a toddler bed..
