it can be defined as many things.  It is typically long distance, electronic communications with a group of students and a teacher.  A conferencing situation or chat room situation that is educational in nature.

A learning environment made up of differnt folks online, who meet together at regular times with a teacher/professor.  becasue you are not in a room with physical walls, this is considered to be 'virtual'.

It is usually an online class. Your enter all your work online through web exercises, instruction is usually presented in a PowerPoint or slides online. You also take tests on there. There is no formal lecture and communication is usually through email or discussion boards.  Hope this helps!

A virtual classroom is when you go to class without going to class.  For instance, you can go to class online, perhaps talk to your professor and classmates through chat, and even may be able to see each other through webcam's.  

There are also systems where you can go to a certain building, meet with some of your classmates in a special room with tvs and microphones that can connect to other schools, and connect to your teacher and a few other locations.  This system goes by different names, but I think is usually referred to as long distance learning?  

Either way you are connected to your class through virtual means, not traditional.  hope that helps :)
