  1. I wanted to major in astronomy, but Columbia required a seminar in the major, and there was no astronomy seminar.  I wound up majoring in German, with a "concentration" in astronomy (correct number of credits for a major, but lacking a seminar).  I wound up working in the space program for a few years, and then in planetariums.
