What is welfare?

I'm just wondering what welfare is?

Is it food stamps or a seperate check that people get?

Welfare is assistance.  Usually when people refer to welfre, they mean the cash aid.  Money is put on an EBT card (like a debit card).  You will also get food stamps, medical care, and child care

welfare can be anything that helps the welfare of people.  It can be cash assistance from the state as well as food stamps.  It can also be social security or social services.  Usually when people say "welfare" they only think of the county assistance office where they live.  You can get it other places as well.
