i am getting a laptop and it will be the only computer that i need a wireless network for. i already have a D-Link router and a computer that runs off it but it is wired. i was wondering what the range of a USB adapter is and where to plug it in. pretty much how it works :P

  1. If you want to use your laptop which i'm assuming has Wifi built in you won't need a USB Wifi adaptor to connect to the network.

instead you'll need a wireless switch or router (router is most common) you connect that to your D-Link Router via ethernet cable and you'll be able to connect wifi stuff to your LAN network and even share your internet connection with those devices

    EDIT----

Almost forgot the range stuff... on a typical b or g wifi router you can get a range of about 150 ft indoors and 300 outdoors
