Is this a first name, middle name, last name, family name??? A lot of people have this name somewhere in their name.... Is it like American's Smith or Jones???

it is a muslim name, usually muslims don't use family name, n there is not necessary to have 1st or 2nd or third name..  

i mean, this name is just a name..

Bin means, son of..

muslim can also name their son as Muhammad bin Adnan

or one can have a name like Zakaria bin Muhammad Yusof

It could be any of the above,but what has your question to do with ROYALTY? Asking about a name is not necessarily asking about a ROYAL name.

Mohammad, Muhammad and Mohamed are all different spelling for the last prophet send by Allah.

For Muslims it is a holy name and they usually name their sons Muhammad. Its more of a first name not a family name. In Arab countries if you want to call a stranger boy instead of "hey, there" people just say Muhammad please there almost everybody is named Muhammad or has it as a part of their name.

Any name can be added to it such as Muhammad Waleed or Muhammad Ali, in such cases the child will be normally called as Waleed or Ali even though Muhammad will be a part of his first name too.

Having Muhammad as a family name is rare but not unheard of. Also as someone rightly said before me, it the most common name in the world.
