Question:

What is with my nose piercing??

i got my nose pierced on july 16th 2008. The piercing lady said that it would heal in 3 weeks. After the 3 weeks, i decided to take it out and put in another one, but it turned all red around it and it was swollen and had pus. Now after quite a few days, it still does the same thing. I put sterling silver in it and it worked just fine, no sensitivity, no pain but there was this ugly red mark around that piercing... I'm getting really frustrated with it. And I also want to change it before school starts. (september 2nd)

Any suggestions?

  1. I had my nose pierced in 1999 and it took a long time to heal.  I would recommend wearing a higher quality like white gold and clean it often.  Don't change it for a while, but turn it daily.

Mine is healed now of course and I only wear it a couple times a year but it doesn't grow up.  I am the only person I know of that has had one that hasn't grown up.  Now, my cartilage in my upper ear will never heal and I have had both pieced at multiple various times over the years.  Good luck.

  2. Nose piercings take 2-3 MONTHS to heal...not weeks. Your piercer was wrong. You probably changed it out way too early and it was probably still healing. Which means it got irritated when you changed it. No, you won't be able to change it before school...it's irritated, trying to heal, and doesn't need more irritation to deal with. Clean it twice a day with sea salt soaks for ten minutes and leave it alone. Don't change it for another 2-3 months.

  3. it might be infected. use peroxide? be sure to clean it

    laurenn:)

  4. My guess would be is that you're probably allergic to nickel. Redness, swelling, and pus are all signs that you're allergic. You would have to stick with the sterling silver types of nose rings, or surgical steel. Also, make sure you throughly clean any nose ring before you put it in, and make sure you clean it regularly while it's in your nose, as bacteria can and will easily build up, causing infection. The best thing for you to do, in this case, would be to leave the nose ring you got it pierced with in for a bit longer, until the redness/swelling has completely gone away, and then you can change it to a surgical steel or sterling silver nose ring. (Also, I would stay away from hoops for a while, seeing as how they're a bit more difficult to put in and take care of.)
