What is with the "allergic reaction" to Community Organizing? Are Republicans allergic to the "community...?

...concept?"

Seems to me they are. Any reference to anything to do with "community" invariably draws a violent and vehement response. As in, 'YOU MUST BE A COMMIE" after all, the words have the same root.

And remember the backlash of "It Takes A Village?" Which - if any of them had actually READ it - is actually true. The concept is simple, the concept is true.

America is a community, and we're better off when we behave as a community.

Why do Republicans hate the concept of America?

Why the belittling of a behavior which simply focuses on a healthy community?

  1. Arch conservatives all have disdain for community service because it goes against the culture of rugged individualism that they so treasure. Helping people is seen as pandering to weakness or encouraging laziness. It is a good way to cover up the fact that you are just too selfish and lazy to get of your a**ss if there is nothing in it for you.

So Margaret Thatcher the former British Prime Minister who was probably just as right wing as Palin although a lot smarter about world affairs once said "There is no such thing as society. There are only individuals."

I think that about sums up the neo-con attitude. Palin exemplifies it.

  2. There's no profit in helping the community.

No profit in dispelling racism - if he all lived in peace, who would we sell guns to?

No profit in Medicare - drug companies would have to lower their prices and could no longer charge 3 times what they charge Canadians.

No profit in raising school standards - companies want cheap labour.

Never forget who holds the reins of the GOP - it's corporate America, and they don't play nice.

  3. Yikes, what can I say, the Cons just want to stop being scared, they think a gated "community" of middle class folks, on the outskirts of town is the answer, but the truth is there aint nowhere to hide, their days are numbered.

  4. When people work together we all benefit. The people need to do that to take back our country. I can list all the reasons I am voting for Obamas such as to stop the billions of dollars going to Iraq or because McCain's health care plan is going to bankrupt people or 7000 people will lose their homes today & McCain is probably buying up hundreds of those homes to rent back to the people but the book I can write about this subject really boils down one issue. We are the USA divided we fall. We must work together to succeed. This is why I am voting for Obama/Biden I live in a republican area & everything is about dualism, competition. They hate each but will come together as long as they have a common enemy. I have a handyman business & I work as a professional organizer & we will drive 40 minutes to work in a liberal area because it is so nice working for people that aren't all about themselves but are one with others. We get paid without having to worry about being ripped off, we get paid more than we ask for because of their generous spirit. They tell everyone about us so we don't need to advertise. The benefits are amazing. While republicans don't what to help anyone unless they are gettng something they know for sure out of it. They can't see how prosperity really works.

  5. And it makes me wonder further whether doing so will create a backlash against people volunteering for their community. If she made similar comments about someone's military experience, there would be outrage. And while Obama's experience isn't the same level of sacrifice as joining the military, it was still a step down for him compared to what he could have done if he wasn't concerned about the community.

He was a Harvard graduate, and president of the Harvard Law Review. He could have gotten a great paying job anywhere, and instead he choose to help out his community instead. Not only that, but he was highly successful at it. The organization he ran doubled in size and number of donations since during his tenure.

On the other hand, PaIin left the town she was mayor deeply in debt, tried to fire a librarian for being against banning books, and sought federal earmarks whenever possible. How has she shown she in any way a better executive leader then Barack Obama?

Frankly, I stop watching her speech after she started bashing Obama's community experience and making her small town mayoral experience seem like it was more important.

To give you an answer in the larger scope is that Republicans hate the community because they interfere with profit. Community negates the need to make profit off of the same endeavour, they are transactions that are not measured on the stock market. Republicans want to destroy the community because it hurts their bottom line. Plus the less people talk to one another, the easier it is for them to be controlled.

  6. You've got it wrong.  They are only allergic to OTHER communities... you know, the ones that are not white, HOMOGENOUS communities.  All willed by God, of course.

You know the Republican mantra..."Please God, don't let the blacks or Puerto Ricans move next door to me..."

  7. You're certainly grasping for questions.

You can't possibly be daft enough to think Republicans don't believe in community and Hate the concept of America.

Palin wasn't bashing Community- she was talking about executive experience- Of which Obama has none.  That's all.  If you take more out of that then you're grasping.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and just say that you're maybe a bit worried about your boys Obama/Biden after The RNC last night- so you're overreacting.

It's all Point of view, DOLL.  You won't be able to see it any other way because of your blinding hatred for the GOP.

Sorry.  You have no idea what I vote. You assume WAY too much.  I'm a registered Independent.  I've voted Dem and Rep.  So nice try to stereotype me because I see both sides of an issue.  I don't think the GOP Hates the idea of community so I can't answer your question because I don't agree with it.  Sorry

Like I said- I try to see both sides.  People on here are wrong about Obama and his "evil" intentions.  I try to give candidates the benefit of the doubt until I see something that contradicts that opinion.  I've defended Both dems and Reps and I've "bashed" both when i think they are wrong.

My husband is a Rep and we get in fights all the time.

It just so happens that I, an Independent, disagree with you, a Democrat, on THIS particular question.  I agree with you that "It takes a village" and that America is better off if we behave as a community.

I just don't think the blanket statement that "Republicans hate the concept of America" is anywhere near true.  That's all.

And if you read my original post- I was not bashing, simply stating that Obama has no executive experience.  That's not wrong.  You might not LIKE it, but it's not an incorrect statement.

I see it this way:  Just because I don't like it, doesn't mean it's not true.

You and I just don't see eye to eye- and that's perfectly cool.  The beauty of free-thinking.

You're right-  Palin doesn't have any Foreign Exposure.  But IMO that can be quickly learned and "fixed" as VP.  Whereas Obama is running for the #1 spot and His "Newbie" status in that spot bothers me more than a newbie in the VP slot.  KWIM?

Oh and I haven't seen those horrid posts you've mentioned about Obama- but if I do, I will be sure to comment against such filth.  I may not support Obama, but I don't hate him by any means.  I really wish he'd have run in 2012- so we'd have a better "feel" for what he's really about.  His short time in the Senate doesn't give a great overview of what he is or can do.  Whether it be good or bad.  I know Palin doesn't have much experience either and I don't give too much credit toward her Mayor terms but I'm personally more concerned with the #1 spot at this point.  I'll be looking a little harder at the #2 spot in the next 2 months.  I'm leaning right at this point but Election day isn't here yet.

  8. Seriously, what's wrong with being a community organizer?  Why would anyone want to put that down?  They should be grateful some one is doing something in the community so they don't have to get their hands dirty themselves.
