idk whats wrong with him! He should be sleeping, at this time, but instead he is messing up all the bedding, hiding under it, and biting everything. At this one part where he removed all the bedding, he is scratching the bottom.. =[ I had to remove the little slide because he keeps hiding under it and biting it. I've had him since April and nothing has wrong.

My mom said it could be the heat, yesterday our AC broke and its been really hot so i put a small fan (not close) but facing my hamster.

i really need help, please.. i'm worried! =[

  1. he probably is trying to get away from the heat. the fan was a good idea and give him plently of water. if he starts having any other problems call a vet. if you dont have the money for a vet call your local petstore and tell them the problem, they are usually a big help.

  2. My hamster did that. SHe would do that cuz she wanted to escape, not that its anything bad. All hamsters want to escape for adventure. Right?

  3. It could be the heat. My hamster(s) usually do that when they are hot. They scratch all their bedding away and lay on the bare cage as its cooler for them. Don't worry, its perfectly normal and he is keeping himself busy!

  4. NO! you are not supposed to keep them in draughts!! put him in your cold basement instead, take the fan away frm him!!!!!

  5. Like others suggested, he's probably trying to get away from the heat.  Try any number of these:

    >Let him lay on the glass.  With the fan on the cage, the glass will be cool so he's only cooling himself down.

    >Give him an ice cube.  Only one and monitor what he does with it so he doesn't do anything stupid. :P  He can chew on it and eat though--  It's like non-dairy ice cream for hamsters. ;D

    >Put ice in his water.  Having a fresh cold drink is always nice.

    >Put a plain tea plate in the freezer with no water on it.  After fifteen or so minutes, put another plate in the freezer and take the cold one and put it in your hamster's cage.  He can lay on it and keep cool or just walk around on it from time to time.  Switch plates after awhile.

    >Keep the room cool.  Is he in your room?  Close your blinds so the sunlight won't heat up the room.  Keep his cage away from the sunlight that could be seeping through the blinds.  Keep his cage low to the ground.  Heat rises, so cold sinks.  Give him something to hide under, the shade (even in his cage) will be cool.

Those methods should help him until your AC is fixed.  If he still frets about things, I would check his symptoms online a bit more, but your mother is probably right.  ^^  So don't worry about it too much as long as you try your best to keep him cool.  (:

  6. Make sure he has plenty of water.  Also you can get him some chew toys--maybe he's just bored or grumpy cause it's hot.

  7. hes preganant

  8. my hamster did the same thing last year when it got really hot in the room he was staying in. what you should do is freeze a water bottle, wrap it in a towel or some thing that's safe for your hamster to chew, and lay it in your hamster's cage. so that when your hamster's hot, it can lay beside the bottle and cool off. hope all goes well

  9. it's either the heat or he could just be teething???
