  1. This is a big question and I suggest you read Wikipedias entry to learn about the economic theory behind free trade.

Free trade proponents do NOT support slavery, they support economic agents freedom to allocate their ressources including their own labour as they desire, since this creates the most efficient economic outcome.

Essentially free trade creates winners and losers, but it creates more wealth for the winners than the winners lose. Overall it's a net gain for society.

  2. Well, when we talk of free trade, it is a system in which the trade of goods and services between or within countries flows unhindered by government-imposed restrictions.

Here are some of its pros and cons:

    Pros:

    a. Proponents support U.S. free trade agreements because they believe that:

    b. Free trade increases sales and profits for U.S. businesses, thus strenghtening the economy

    c. Free trade creates U.S. middle-class jobs over the longterm

    d. Free trade is an opportunity for the U.S. to provide financial help to some of the world's poorest countries

    Cons:

    a. Free trade has caused more U.S. jobs losses than gains, especially for higher-wage jobs.

    b. Many free trade agreements are bad deals for the U.S.
