What is (would be) more important to you?

I have just recently gone through a terrible divorce with someone who (basically) took my entire life from me including my children.

I fought very hard for my kids, spending 72 hours a week working trying to pay for the lawyers.

In the end I cracked and I could not work any harder after having spent 8 thousand dollars on lawyers (my annual income was only 11k at the time).

My ex husband now states that I can not see the children unless I come back to Michigan to see them.

Due to financial reasons (no jobs and high unemployment) I could not find a job in Michigan so I had to relocate (after even going through more schooling to attempt to find a higher paying job).

If I go back to Michigan I can not support myself nor can I support my children.

If I want to see my kids I have to go to Michigan to see them.

I don't see how this is fair.

Is there anything I can do?

I am reluctant to spend yet more money on court because I have lost my entire life to this man and I'd like to have something some day.

  1. well you could try to find something along the border of ohio or indiana. the emplyment sucks in michigan. thats why i moved to texas. i think he is doeing this on purpose t opunish you. im so sorry to ehar this. mail back if you want and ill try to help. i know alot of people up there still

  2. IF he was in another state and HE'S the one who moved to MI   it's his responsiblity to pay for the visits.

It doesnt sound like you paid for a good attorney!!

Why not quit your job, move to MI, get on social services, and then you'll ge FREE Legal Aid.

I had a fight for my kids in MI. I wasn't working.  I got the help.  I did have to show some bad marks against him in order to get my kids back, but with proof and witnesses, I got my kids back.

  3. There is NO reason why they cant visit you out of state unless you have been found guilty of something horrible.

File for a modification to the visitation rights.

    Just never ever give up.

  4. i wish you'll earn more money and have the custody of your children.

  5. I just want to commend you on being a mother that so many other females need to be like. I can feel your pain, both in your heart and in your pocket.  I personally think that you should go to Michigan and try to make it out there.  I think it will kill you too much to be far away from your children.  At least if you are in Michigan and you can see them, that's like a boost in your life everytime you can see them and they will continue to make you want to strive for better. I will pray for you.

  6. I understand it to be very hard for a man to get custody of the children. So I have to wonder how that happened. Having said that, you can make good money cleaning houses and doing things like babysitting, dog sitting and a thousand other things. Set your goals on saving enough money to get where you want to be and you will be able to afford to move closer to your children.
