Question:

What is wrong/unhealthy about Chinese/Thai food?

I love it and tend to go once a week to a Chinese restaurant. Apart from the fact that it is yummy it is cheap. But I was told that it is not good to have it too often. I find that quite absurd. The Chinese & Thai people have it every day. But in Europe (and other parts of the world perhaps too) they warn for a specific ingredient that is added. Anybody out there who can help me out on this?

  1. That it tastes horrible!

  2. No prob with MSG myself, but if you get a fried egg on your rice in south east Asia, f**k it off!

  3. there is nothing really wrong with it. but it is usually very high in sodium and calories,

and it has msg. it makes you tired.

  4. In general restaurant food can't be compared with home food but people say it is unhealthy in terms of high quantity of salt and cause they fry a lot

  5. everything in small portions is o/k whatever

  6. Food in both China and Thailand is always balanced with a sauce, each meal has a designated sauce and once you have finished that course then sauce is taken away and replaced by the next one (they will not leave it even if you beg)

The food is healthy because it is cooked very quickly and to order although it does contain more MSG than is recommended. They also use very few dairy products in their cooking which is also healthy.

I too have spent a lot of time in the far east and was never fitter

  7. The guy above me is right too much MSG.

  8. Mono sodium glutamate is prevalent in both foods. The high salt content obviously isn't that good for you. Thais tend to fry nearly everything and use fatty cuts of meat. I love both though.
