"I just bought a 5.8 GHz phone hoping it wouldn't interfere with my 2.4 GHz WIFI. When I plug the phone cord into the jack, my dsl does not work. When I take the cord out of the jack, my dsl worked fine. I thought by buying a 5.8 GHz phone I would not have this problem. Can you help me?

I have a Uniden 5.8 GHz phone with a Linksys WRT 300N WIFI.

  1. Sounds like you forgot to put a DSL 'filter' in the line with the cordless phone.. Sometimes it is even better to use TWO filters on the phone.!! Of course the DSL line needs NO filter.

  2. you shouldn't have a problem to connect..if you have a

DSL FILTER  . if you don't go to your Telephone company Provider to get one. or you can go online..

  3. First, make sure you have a known-good DSL Filter in-line with your 5.8 GHz phone base unit.

The WRT300N operates on 2.4 (Wireless=G) and 5 GHz (Wireless-N) frequency bands.  So there is potential a Wireless-N router may interfere with 5.8 GHz phones and vise-versa.

If you are primarily using the WRT300N for Wireless-G connections, then be sure to configure it to Disable Mixed-Mode and turn-off Wireless-N mode of transmission. (5 GHz band). And, only use Wireless-G mode (assuming you are only using Wireless-G adapters in your PC's.)

Also, put as much distance between the cordless 5.8 GHz phone base unit and the WRT300N antennas to reduce any problems of RFI saturation between the two units.  Be sure the cordless phones is "not too close" to any other wireless-g (or N) adaptors in PC's, as well.

If you are only using the wireless-g modes of transmission of your WRT300N, you would really be better off using the WRT54G Wireless Router.  The WRT54G only transmits on 2.4 GHz and should not interfere with 5.8 GHz phones (and vise-versa).

I use Linksys WRT54G router with my 5.8 GHz Panasonic phones and have not had any RFI problems between the two.

In the end, you may be better off getting a DECT 6.0 cordless phone, which operates on 1.9 GHz and does not share band space with any other wireless services.
