my koi have not been behaving normally and i wanted to know if anything is wrong. i had one fish that behaved the same way and it died. these fish are not old. they are swimming with there fins in and heads facing down a bit. they don't move much even when i try poking them with a net. they feed sometimes and swim very slowly. they have gradually got worse but i don't know what is wrong. does anybody have any ideas about what is wrong?

  3. check all water parameters including p/h levels, you really need to know what your water chemistry is like. make sure they have some shade in the pond ( it should be at least 4ft deep) make sure there is plenty of oxygen using air stones/ fountains if necessary. also check for any infection, fins torn/red, scales protruding out from body, cloudy eyes ect. you should also add salt (using a salt test kit) at a rate of about 1-2% this will inhabit most infections and act as a tonic. it can also temporarily block the affects of ammonia/nitrate in the pond until your water is good again if this is the prob. if they are larger koi its worth taking them to a good vet, its possible to inject larger koi with antibiotics. i have done this myself and it works well if a disease is un-specific, prob better to get a vet to do this for you though if you havent done it before.

  4. Hi It sounds to me like they are stress from poor water quality. I would first do a 25 percent water channel. Most fish get sick from poor water quality. Poor water quality can come from over feeding, not doing weekly water changes or a plugged filter. I believe your fish have a swim bloater infection. After doing the water change I would add some aquarium salt to the tank slowly over the next day or two. I would also increase the temp in the tank slowly and keep it at about 80 degrees for about 10 days.

  5. stop poking it with a net
