What is wrong with British people?

If other EU countries have no problem with the EU and still have distinct cultures, then why is Britain so opposed to it. Is 'British culture' so weak as to be swallowed up by EU regulations?

  1. The problem is most British people never wanted to be in the EU in the first place. Being a part of it has made life so much harder for the average citizen - the good jobs are becoming almost impossible to find, the waiting times for low cost housing have shot up. The hospitals, schools, and prisons are all struggling to cope with the extra demand on their services. The UK is only an island, it would be lovely if there was enough room for everybody who wanted to come in... but there simply isn't. There has to be a line drawn somewhere. :-)

  2. You're misinformed. The French , Dutch and Irish have all opposed the EU consolidation of power over the wishes of the peoples of Europe.

The EU is part of the bankers' drive for world dictatorship. By cresting steeping stones in each region. e'g' The EU. the AU. ASEAN, NAU etc  they plan to join them up to control the world.

  3. The British people would rather listen to propaganda fed to us by the USA and its agencies (like Murdoch's empire) than think for themselves.  We certainly don't want European style democracy where you get some choice in who governs you.  We'd rather have the American system where you get to choose between two governments you don't want.

  4. A lot of British people have xenophobic attitudes, especially anti-German,  as a hangover from WWs I and II, when we fought against many European countries.  The football chant "Two world wars and one world cup" sums the mentality up quite nicely.

  5. Just look how the UK government has undermined British culture especially in the last decade.

Most if not all EU countries have their national flag flying over all government buildings & here?

I could go on & on but just think about it...

  6. Fair comment.

Cornwall is not Yorkshire because both are in England

  7. Step back - breathe in - there is nothing wrong with us - what we have the problem with is the EU telling us we have to accept all the immigrants whilst they do diddly squat to support the system.

Then they have the cheek to turn a blind eye whilst all the buggers from beyond Europe, skip onto lorries coming here.

British culture is being eroded by the Eu and the slack handling of the issues

  8. No but our culture includes things like, the imperial system, which the EU would get rid of. Driving on the left hand side would be abolished these are just two examples of some British Culture that would be lost. I have nothing against europe but leave me out of it.

Anyone want to join me in making Britian a continent of it's own???

  9. simply because we are British and why would change anything, theres nothing wrong with our culture,

    and plus we are British

  10. I was half way through a brilliant Answer when my line dropped so I will have to save my wisdom on this for the next time.Confuscius he say "Forego 10 points to gain 2" especially if you are off to the pub soon.

  11. They took over the Clam and framed Peter!

  12. The other Countries hate the EU as much as UK try asking the man in the street.

What is wrong with the British People? They have little choice in political leaders. The choice is a bunch of wankers or a bunch of tossers. Take your pick

  13. Other EU countries do have a problem with the EU. Hence those allowed a referendum voted against the EU Treaty a few years ago, and Ireland voted against the Lisbon Treaty a few months ago.

It is the politicians of all countries, and the people of only a few who want the EU in its current or future state. Most would rather it went back to just being a trading union. The only people who are happy with how it is now are the countries it benefits, the countries in the east who are poorer, and basically get free money from us via the EU, and then come over here freely and take our money again. Whilst we get very little from it.

It is not British culture that is being swallowed up by EU regulation, but British freedoms and liberties. Perhaps other people in Europe don't care about these things, but they are very important to the people of the UK. We rather like our democracy, and would rather not be ruled by a group of UNELECTED, UNACCOUNTABLE, and UNBELIEVEABLY CORRUPT men in Brussells. I'm sure you wouldn't either.

  14. Are you serious? lots of European countries are opposed to the EU. Why havnt Norway and Switzerland joined?

Why has Ireland opposed the Lisbon Treaty?

I have spoken to hundreds of continental Europeans who who are Anti EU.

"Is Brittish culture so weak as to be swallowed up by EU regulations"

    Tosser!

Would you prefer if we wore berets and slept at lunchtime?

    What a weak attack

  15. The Brits always seem to go for the EU legislation that the likes of the French completely ignore when it suits them. However, I do believe there are positives with the EU rules. Truck drivers have to have rest periods. That's about it I think. I don't like all the rest of it. Another, yet another, very expensive tier of government. We are overgoverened by fat cats with their snouts in th trough we pay for. I know it's a mixed metaphor but you get my drift. Sack the lot of them.

  16. It's probably more the English than the British who are anti-Europe, and it's probably got something to do with the imperialist history.

  17. There is only one way to find out how much support the EU has in other EU countries that’s by a referendum of all EU countries. I would expect most contributing countries to vote against and non-contributors for. I am not aware that that the UK, France, Belgium, Holland, Italy voted to join the EU. There Governments took them into the European Common Market a trading body, not a politically entity.

When it comes to culture France Spain and Italy has a culture of corruption. Mitterand faced corruption charges arising from when he was the Mayor of Paris. When he became president of France, he change the law so that no sitting president could charge with corruption. (Can you imagine a British Prime Mister doing that) I am still waiting for him to be charge since he is not now the president, I expect It will not happen) Spain here the political system is riddled with corruption? Many of mayors are corrupt, mainly arising from giving building permits, colluding with builders to appropriate land owned by others. Some have been caught, not many have been expelled form their particular political party. None of the Local Authorities have paid compensation to those who have suffered under this corruption. Most of the voters know these politician are corrupt but continue to vote for them election after election.

The point about corruption is its negates democracy, when a mayor gets a bribe from a builder that builder is allow to block roads, use roads which not public roads, damage road surfaces to the extent they are not passable by ordinary motor cars. Interrupt the lives of nearby residents, caused them distress and damage their homes. Also they are allowed to dump un-used concrete on the sides of roads and leave unsightly land fill and rubbish on estates that have allegedly finished.

The culture in many EU countries is bugger your neighbour. Take what you can get from the EU; pass some on to your friends via dodgy contracts etc. Having lived in the EU I can tell you the culture is completely different to the UK. Your lawyer will for example tell you to lie in court, make exaggerated claims, whatever you need to do to win. Architects will prepare plans to build on land where they know building is illegal, Their college will pass it as perfectly OK.

It not just the cultures of the different member countries, it is the culture of the EU commissioners and the EU civil servants. The EU civil servants from the commissioner down are corrupt. In one incident a Commissioner and his department were actually found to be corrupt. What happened they changed the name of the department and continued with their corrupt ways, nobody was dismissed, charge with fraud, they just continue where they left off.

The accounts books kept by the commissioners have not been certified as giving a true and honest view of the EU. accounts for the last twelve years, they have not been able at this time to find corrupt accountant to do this, but they will is just a matter of time  and how much they have to pay a dodgy accountant.

The EU Parliament a big talking shop with little power, that lies with the un-elected commissioners, but they get paid a vast salary, massive expenses and a better pension than their citizens.

I say referendum now; let’s see what the people of the UK think!!!

  18. I wasn't aware we had a problem with the EU?

But i think a problem that could answer your question is immigration.. im only 21 but I have noticed that its very hard to find a job now while back from uni because we have alot of foreign people coming over to find a better life.. im not against it but it does make me a little angry that i cant find a job as easily as i used to be able to.

Personally I'm not opposed to it at all.....

  19. You are wrong to suggest that there is universal approval of the EU within Europe. There is plenty of opposition and with just cause. The EU is a bureaucratic nightmare and is not governed by any consensus of democratic opinion. The commissioners are appointed, not elected and seem to be virtually unsackable from their overpaid positions.

Personally I have no problem with the concept of a united Europe but I only want it if I can vote for the LEADERS not the lickspittle MEP's. In the UK we currently have an unpopular government which can serve a maximum fixed term of five years and then we will vote it out. We have no such power within Europe and that's why I and, I would think, the majority of Britons are opposed to the EU as it currently stands.

  20. The E U well not make it The C I A predicts by 2015 it's gone

Neil you want to buy me a beer in your pub? Do they have Bud? Can I spread my American good well there? Did not think so.Don't try and kiss up to me Kiss off

  21. What are you talking about??? I thought that pretty soon Britain are joining the EU, you know with the Euro thing. Can someone clear that up please?

  22. europe is rubbish

  23. Maybe British culture is too strong to want to trade a small government for a big government.

  24. It is not so much the "British People" as our elected politicians.  A referendum was promised and then denied us by OUR OWN govt.  Why, because they knew that we would do as the Irish did and say a rather loud no.

    Ray.isBack - good answer - have a beer.

In that case - offer withdrawn - and by the way they do serve that pisswater you call beer over here.
