What is wrong with Canadas current Agriculture?

What is wrong with our current agriculture in canada...what are the problems, what is causing our crops to not grow/die, etc.

  1. Well the main problem I see is that the land currently used for farming is only moderately fertile. The excellent farming land has all been used by expanding cities. As a matter of fact, the best farming land in all of Canada is in the Toronto area - yet there are few farms and what little farms there are - they are small in size. The climate is also a little better for farming in the Toronto area and irrigation is much easier than on the praries.

    Whether or not crops grow, however, is a whole other ball of wax and that depends on the weather that year to the skill of the farmer and the fertility of the land he/she owns.

    In the spring, there are usually problems for farmers because all the snow melts and over-soaks their fields. The run-off takes most of the nutrients out of the soil, making it much less fertile.
