What is wrong with Roger?

Question

I just watched him lose in the 2nd round of the Rogers Cup after getting a 1st round bye. He was a finalist last year!!

I am beginning to think he does better without a coach. From the beginning, he came in with a game plan that worked for the first set--he won it. However, he never changed it as his opponent grew better in the next set and won.

Besides this, he made rookie mistakes throughout the match.

He may not state it but losing the French Open & Wimbledon has shaken him BIG TIME!

He is not use to having stiff competition and now that these players are getting better he is starting to choke. Still amazing, but quickly losing his deity status.

i am a roger fan but i have doubts about his present form

now.

one  thing i must  say is he needs to go back to the basics of tennis play as i see he is making so many unforced errors so i guess he needs to spend a lot of time in nets to iron out these unforced errors particularly forehand shots.

Seems to me all this talk about being the greatest player ever of tennis has gotten into his head and he has become complacent after years of success.(but that happens to many players as we can see that with ronaldinho of football etc)Its just so humane.

Also i think he lost his hunger for success and focus a bit.

I have never seen him making so many unforced errors on field.Its really hurting me and many of other fans of him.Its creating huge pressure on him.

I just honestly hope for him to overcome these humane obstacles to come back to his best form and get back the spirit he had even last year.

He is only 26 and he has so many things to give tennis whether you are a Roger fan or not.

You can't stay number 1 forever. Every  person goes through a slide where they slowly stop winning and lose earlier. This is his. Stop with the "mono" talk...he's fine now. Face it that your God is losing his stock and other players are stepping up their game against him.

I think tonight was just a fluke match to be honest.  A couple months ago you could say something was wrong with him but despite losing Roland Garros and Wimbledon he is clearly back on his game, he played very well in both those tournaments, he was killed by Nadal at the French but played well the whole tournament until then and he played well enough to win at Wimbledon too, Nadal was just a little better.  

I'm shocked by tonight's loss but I don't think it should really be a cause to bring back the questions about his entire game.  He'll bounce back before the Olympics and the U.S. Open for sure.  He's still the best hardcourt player, that's what we said about grass as well but for now, Fed is still the best hardcourt player in the world and I'm not too worried about tonight's loss.  Surprised and disappointed, but it doesn't have me worrying about him in a big way.  Just a fluke.

The back-to-back French and Wimbledon loss is still in Roger's head no matter what he says....he just cant get over it..and his age is telling him he should think of hanging up the racket.....

Nothing is wrong with Roger Federer.  Rafa and other people are just better.  In the future when Roger gets married and has kids he will probably train them to be professional tennis players, and hopefully be world number one.

my guesses:

1. still suffering from mono or its aftereffects

2.  still depressed from losing back-to-back grandslam finals

3.  other players are not afraid of him anymore

whatever it is, hope he gets back.  rafa winning the finals with any other player is just not exciting enough.  =)

Okay. First of all, Aries, it's not mono. Mono's effect last a maximum of 3 months, and he had it in January and February. Meaning it would be gone by May at the latest. It's almost August now. Mono isn't the problem.

Roger's problem is that he's past his prime. Every athlete comes to the time where they just aren't as good as they used to be. And now is Roger's time. He may have one last Slam in him, like Sampras did, but it's coming near to the time that he needs to retire.

Nothing. He had a bad loss but Simon stepped up his game and played well in the 2nd and 3rd set thats it end of story. Sure roger had some bad errors but at the end of the day the better man wins.
